Vote Crowley
This letter to the editor, by Kerry Kittel, appeared in the Hudson Star Observer on October 1, 2026.
Americans agree about at least one important issue in our government and elections. Over 72% believe there is too much money in politics, while 82% see big money as a threat to democracy.
That is why Wisconsin’s race for governor has a redflag warning for all of the voters about one of the candidates.
Republican nominee Tom Tiffany is funded by three ultra-conservative donors, who have funneled at least $6 million to the Republican party that went toward his campaign.
What rate of return on their investments in Tiffany do you think these billionaires have in mind? Maybe they hope for a strong ROI? That’s what donors to President Donald Trump’s vanity ballroom, costing $400 million, could very well expect. The donors have received $50 billion in government contracts since the East Wing’s demolition, according to Public Citizen’s report.
Wisconsin voters have been wise enough to distrust bought-and-paid-for candidates before. Remember how Elon Musk tried to buy Wisconsin’s Supreme Court race in 2025? He flooded the campaign with $25 million in support of a far-right candidate. But Wisconsin voters resoundingly rejected the corruptive influence of big money then and instead elected progressive judge Susan Crawford by a 10-point margin.
Besides Tiffany being another bought and paid for candidate, there are many more reasons for voters to reject him as governor. When in the U.S. and state Legislature, he has voted for the largest cuts to public schools in Wisconsin’s history. He voted for Trump’s war and tariffs, voted for removing children and elders from SNAP due to expanded work requirements and voted to overturn the electoral votes of two other states during the 2020 election.
I agree with the 82% of Americans who see big money as a threat to democracy.
We people in Wisconsin can’t trust Tiffany to be our state’s governor — he’d serve his wealthy masters first, long before he’d even consider the needs of us everyday people.
On Nov. 3, vote for David Crowley as Wisconsin’s next governor — he wants to build a Wisconsin that works for us all.
