Vote Clark
This letter to the editor, by Kerry Kittel, appeared in the Hudson Star Observer on October 1, 2026.
Most Americans believe in giving people a second chance. For many of us those second chances must be earned. The person asking for a second chance must admit that they have made mistakes, show legitimate remorse for making them and promise to change for the better.
Did Vice President JD Vance do any of those things when he begged voters to give Republicans a second chance? Nope. He wants to fool them into voting for more wars, skyrocketing fuel costs, massive inflation, corruption in the executive branch, unlimited data centers and many other irresponsible, unconstitutional actions.
On Nov. 3, voters have a chance to repair the damage done by President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans in just two short years. A great way to start would be electing Fred Clark to represent the people of the 7th Congressional District.
Fred Clark is a conservationist and businessman, who served three terms in Wisconsin’s Assembly. While in the Assembly he worked in a bipartisan manner to solve issues and will use his experience as a successful business owner to help drive our economy forward.
His opponent, Michael Alfonso, has never held an elective office or served in government. Sawyer County Republican chairman John Righeimer said this about Alfonso: “If Michael could win on his own, that would be different. It seems like a machine behind him is force-feeding us someone who is not ready.”
The machine he is speaking about is the Trump machine. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, who is Alfonso’s father-inlaw, funneled through his dormant campaign fund nearly 1.5 million dollars to the deeply unqualified Alfonso. Elections should be decided about qualifications, not nepotism or who has the most money.
Three-time Trump voter, Meg Ellefson, had this to say about Alfonso: “I think it’s insulting to people in the 7th [CD] that someone who lacks qualifications [or] any life experiences” should be a candidate to represent people in Wisconsin.
Michael Alfonso has asked “what has experience ever gotten us?” On Nov. 3, voters must choose Fred Clark, because he has the legislative and life experience to bring quality representation back to the 7th CD.
