Vote Crawford April 1

This letter to the editor, by Pam Fricke, appeared in the Hudson Star Observer on February 6, 2025.

Wisconsin voters have wisely shown a preference for moderate candidates in statewide elections for the last decade or more. In April, they would be wise to elect Susan Crawford, the moderate candidate in the Supreme Court race. Her opponent, Brad Schimel, is another farright candidate who has already indicated support for radical policies.

He has expressed public support for Wisconsin’s 1849 ban on abortions, asking, “What is flawed about that law?” The 1849 ban, which contains no exceptions for rape or incest, has been described as “valid” by Schimel.

As attorney general, he defended gerrymandered legislative districts and sought new restrictions on voting.

He also led a lawsuit to overturn the Affordable Care Act, which would remove 306,000 Wisconsin residents, many of them children, from insurance coverage. It would also allow insurance companies the ability to deny coverage based on preexisting conditions.

Brad Schimel is a political operative, not an independent jurist. He has prejudged several cases that are likely to come before Wisconsin’s Supreme Court. If elected, he would be the swing vote on cases dealing with abortion, gerrymandered districts, and health care for Wisconsin residents.

Wisconsin voters can prevent extremist Brad Shimel by electing the moderate Susan Crawford to the State Supreme Court. A state whose motto is “Forward” needs a Supreme Court that will allow progress to happen. Please vote for Susan Crawford on April 1.
