One vote at a time
How do we win elections? We do it one vote at a time!
Not everyone pays attention to politics like some of us, especially in non-presidential elections like the Supreme Court race just ahead with a primary on February 21 followed by the general election on April 4. In the Presidential election of 2020, about 57,000 St. Croix County voters cast a ballot. In the 2021 spring election for State Superintendent, about 12,000 of our voters cast a ballot. That’s a drop off of 45,000 voters! The difference is sometimes called the “drop off” because so many people drop off voting in spring elections.
As much as we might see this spring election as critically important for our state’s future, there are many presidential year “drop off” voters who get busy with their daily lives and don’t think about the spring election until it is upon them, and maybe not even then. That’s why conversations, postcards, mailers, social media posts, texts, phone calls, and door knocks work. We remind people that it’s time to vote and give them the information they need.
If a few additional progressive voters take the time to vote in each of Wisconsin’s 1,851 municipalities, it amounts to winning the statewide election. In St. Croix County, when you talk to neighbors, friends, or family members, they are more likely to vote. Your effort will make a difference, especially when many people are making that same effort around the state.
Our county party’s mission is to help you have an impact on this critical spring election. Conversations, phone calls, and texts to someone you know makes a difference. We can help with that. Same goes for social media posts, letters to the editor, and written letters and postcards.
Talking to voters door to door is one of the most direct and effective ways to remind people to vote. We carefully select the “turf”, so that it is very likely you’ll talk only to like-minded people and have friendly conversations. Many people will thank you for reminding them, and also thank you for taking the time to volunteer. You may even make some new friends or reconnect with old friends. Speaking of friends, one of the best ways to knock doors is to do it with a friend.
Whatever you do this spring will make a difference. We have created many opportunities for you to pitch in and move some people to vote. Your efforts, combined with thousands of other efforts, amounts to a big push to remind people to vote and make sure they have the information they need. That’s how we win, one vote at a time.
