Thank the People Who Run Our Elections

This letter to the editor, by Cheri Evjen, appeared in the Hudson Star Observer on October 29, 2026.

Thank the people who run our elections Every voter in Wisconsin should appreciate the amazing job done by election clerks and the volunteers who run our elections. These experienced, highly trained and dedicated people guarantee that we have free and fair elections and that our elections run smoothly.

Wisconsin has a stellar record of running clean elections. Sadly, lies about voter fraud make their jobs much more difficult. Election supervisors and volunteers have been criticized, and even threatened, by people who believe a host of lies about elections. Some have even stopped volunteering.

Wisconsin voters cast 3.4 million votes in 2024. Election clerks referred 46 instances of suspected voter fraud and irregularities for further investigation. Forty-six. Voter fraud is nearly nonexistent in Wisconsin, largely because of the efforts of volunteers and election officials.

Remember to vote Nov. 3, and be sure to thank poll workers if you vote in person. They are the foundation of successful, fair and efficient elections. They deserve our respect, our support and our gratitude, because they make democracy possible.
