Elect Leaders Who Will Restore Sanity

This letter to the editor, by Kerry Kittel, appeared in the Hudson Star Observer on October 22, 2026.

Candidates often ask voters, “Are you better off today?” Only about one in five Americans say they are financially better off than when Trump began his disastrous second term.

Candidate Trump promised peace, an end to inflation and the elimination of our national debt. He delivered an unnecessary, expensive war, inflation driven by higher fuel prices and tariffs, and a soaring national debt.

Trump’s erratic foreign policy has turned Canada, a great friend, trading partner and dependable ally, into an enemy. His insulting treatment of NATO allies threatens an alliance that has made the world safer for nearly 80 years.

ICE has evolved into a poorly trained, masked and highly aggressive police agency. Federal agents tore apart Minneapolis earlier this year, killing two U.S. citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretti. It seems likely that ICE will be used in November to prevent free and fair elections.

Tom Tiffany voted to protect Trump’s tariffs and voted five times against ending his war with Iran. He is a strong supporter of ICE. He also voted for huge cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, and he voted to reject electoral votes from Arizona and Pennsylvania in 2020.

Wisconsin voters should elect David Crowley as governor. Crowley’s experience as Milwaukee County executive has prepared him to successfully move the state forward.

The best choice in Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District is Fred Clark, who served in the Assembly and operates a successful business. His opponent, Michael Alfonso, 26, has no qualifications beyond the fact that he is Sean Duffy’s son-inlaw. Alfonso is hoping that Duffy’s political machine and wealthy donors can buy him the seat, giving Trump another yes man who will support his irrational leadership and damaging policies.

Kevin Knoke is the clear choice to represent the 30th Assembly District. Knoke will fight to fund public schools. Shannon Zimmerman seems happy to let them close. Zimmerman voted to send $700 million to private schools. We can’t afford a representative who cares more about Milwaukee schools than those in Hudson.

America and Wisconsin will be much better off if we elect David Crowley, Fred Clark, Kevin Knoke and, in the 28th Assembly District, Robin Lillesve to end the chaos and restore sanity to our government.
