Survey results indicate that the residents of St. Croix County value water quality, open spaces, and wildlife habitat. Water quality will be extremely important as the climate crisis progresses, as county populations grow, as diminishing agricultural lands give way to developments and large corporations/factory farms effect our water quality.

Protection of the St. Croix River watershed, water quality and monitoring is key moving forward. Seventy-eight percent of survey responders are very concerned about the preservation of natural resources in our County. Funding is key for County Staff to maintain this quality.

Additionally, as our agricultural lands are diminishing, it is important to support continuation of small/mid-sized operations such as small livestock production, plant nurseries, tree farms, orchards, community supported agriculture (CSA), hobby farms, organic production, vineyards, etc. We want to encourage the growth of local, healthy food sources for our community.

Survey results also indicate that residents want a community that they can navigate safety through recreational and off-road transportation trails as well as municipal walkways.

Small scale solar and renewable energy was also supported by County residents. As we continue to see the effects of the climate crisis, it will be important to provide support and avenues for renewable energies.

Take a few minutes, review the plan, attend the meetings and let your voice be heard in St. Croix County’s Comprehensive Plan. Share what’s important to you for a thriving St. Croix County.
